A henna designs step by step to take you from beginner to whatever level of mastery is right for you.
If you like henna (or maybe you know it as mehndi, the Indian word for henna) and you want to know how to get started doing it for yourself, GetYourHennaOn is here to help. Each section of the site will focus on different aspects of mehndi design and how to develop the skills in each area.
However you've found yourself here, if you want to get started with your own henna tattoos, there are some essential items you'll need to pack for your henna journey. I'll be covering all the things I've learned along the way... and adding new things as they happen... to try and help you wherever you are on your path. Check out the different sections to find out about:
I remember when I first picked up a henna cone and made the splodgiest attempt at a mehndi pattern. I wasn't even attempting a full on henna tattoo... just a simple beginner paper pattern. I did wonder how on earth I would ever get to a point where I'd be happy putting henna to skin! But with a little bit of daily practice it happened faster than I expected.
Within a month I made my first attempt at a henna tattoo on my foot. In another three months I was more proficient. I'm still nowhere near as good as I'd like to be ... but then that's my journey ;) But hopefully this gives you an idea of what can happen with steady practice.
First attempt at a foot mehndi design
6 months later a full arm henna tattoo :)
Ultimately there's only one way to start getting to where you want to be with henna. And that's to start! I know what that initial hesitation feels like... as well as the thoughts of OMG I'll never be that good when you see what some artists are capable of. But I truly believe that anyone can do this if you put the time and effort in. I think I'm a good example of a work in progress!
Well, that's enough chatter from me for now. It's time to get you started on your own henna tattoo journey :)
